1. Introduction: Why is the migration to "Project Morphe" necessary?

"ReVanced Extended (RVX)," which has been a standard extension app for YouTube and other services, has officially been declared discontinued by its developer, inotia00. While the RVX you are currently using will not stop working tomorrow, it is expected that issues such as the inability to load videos or the app force-closing will occur in the near future because it will no longer be able to keep up with YouTube's frequent specification changes.

Therefore, some of the former RVX development members have gathered to launch a successor project with a new structure called "Project Morphe (Morphe)." Morphe supports newer versions of the app than RVX and has a faster bug-fixing speed, so it is strongly recommended to migrate to the Morphe environment before RVX becomes completely unusable.

2. Important rules for safe downloading

When installing extension apps, the most important thing to be careful about is "where you download the files from."

2.1. Why should you download from the "official" source and "patch it yourself"?

Sometimes someone somewhere distributes "pre-built APKs" that have already been patched, but using these is extremely dangerous. There are the following risks:

Virus contamination: There is a risk that crypto assets could be mined in the background of your smartphone or your personal information could be stolen.
Account hijacking: Programs designed to steal Google account passwords and other information may be embedded.
Inability to update: You will be unable to overwrite and update to the official, safe version.

Look for the latest stable version (the one with a green tag labeled "Latest") at the top of the page. (*Please avoid Pre-releases, etc., as they may have bugs.)
Tap the word "Assets" below the description of that release to open it.
From the list, tap the file that ends in .apk (e.g., morphe-manager-1.18.0.apk) to download it.
Your smartphone may display a warning saying "This file may harm your device," but if the URL is correct, please select "Save (Continue)."

3. MicroG-RE installation and important settings

To log in to your Google account on the Morphe version of YouTube and view your subscribed channels as usual, you need an app called "MicroG-RE."

3.1. How to open the MicroG-RE settings screen

Since MicroG-RE is an app that runs in the background, no icon will appear on your smartphone's home screen even after installation. To open the settings screen, use one of the following methods:

Method A: Open from smartphone settings (Basic)

Open your smartphone's "Settings" app.
Go to "Apps" -> "See all apps."
Find and tap "MicroG-RE (or MicroG)" from the list.
Tap "Additional settings in the app" to open the settings screen.

Method B: Open from the Morphe version of YouTube (After installation)

Open the Morphe version of YouTube and open "Settings" from the icon in the top right.
Open the "Morphe (or ReVanced Extended)" settings.
Select "MicroG" from "Miscellaneous." (*If you turn off "Hide in launcher" in these settings, you can make the icon appear on the home screen.)

3.2. Initial setup (*Very important!)

Once the MicroG-RE settings screen is open, be sure to do the following two things:

Add Google account: Select "Add account" from the "Account" tab and log in with your usual Google account.
Disable battery optimization (to prevent videos from stopping): If your smartphone's power-saving feature stops MicroG-RE from running, you will encounter an issue where "the video just keeps spinning and won't play." Open "Self-Check" within MicroG-RE and make sure to check "Allow background usage." (*If you are using a Xiaomi or Samsung smartphone, you need to manually turn off power-saving restrictions for MicroG-RE from the smartphone's own battery settings as an "exception.")

4. App preparation and patching procedure (Self-build)

Once you are ready, you will use Morphe Manager to patch the app. Here, "preparing the correct version of the app" is the key to success.

4.1. Check the "recommended version" for patching

If you patch an arbitrary version of YouTube, it will result in errors or the app will crash. Always use the version specified by the Manager.

Open the installed "Morphe Manager."
Open the "Patcher" tab from the bottom menu.
Tap "Select an application" and choose "YouTube."
Note the "Target version (or Suggested version)" number displayed on the screen (e.g., 20.47.62).

4.2. Download the app from APKMirror

Next, download the version of YouTube you noted earlier. *(You cannot download it from the Google Play Store.)

Access APKMirror in your browser.
Enter "YouTube" and the version number from earlier (e.g., YouTube 20.47.62) in the search box to search.
Open the corresponding page and look at the list of downloadable files.
[Important] Never choose anything labeled "Bundle." Always choose and download the one that says "APK" and has a resolution of "nodpi."
[Important] Even after the download is finished, do not open and install this file yet. This file is the "material" to be used inside the Manager.

4.3. Patch and install

Finally, the finishing touches.

Open the "Patcher" -> "Select an application" screen in Morphe Manager.
Tap the "Storage" button in the bottom right.
Select the YouTube APK file you downloaded from APKMirror earlier.
A list of applicable patches will appear. The defaults are fine, but just make sure "MicroG Support" is checked.
Press the "Patch" button in the bottom right to start. (*It will take several minutes to 10 minutes depending on your smartphone's performance. Please wait without turning off the screen.)
When finished, an "Install" button will appear at the bottom of the screen, so tap it to install. (*If a warning about "installing unknown apps" appears, please allow it and proceed.)

With this, your ad-free, feature-rich Morphe version of YouTube is complete!

5. Convenient integration settings with external downloaders

There are many requests to save (download) videos to your smartphone, but the Morphe version of YouTube itself does not have a download function. This is to prevent the app from becoming too heavy or prone to errors.

Instead, it is equipped with a wonderful feature that "safely integrates with dedicated download apps."

5.1. Recommended external downloaders

Download and install one of the following apps from their official GitHub. (*They are not on the Google Play Store.)

5.2. Configuration steps to link apps

Once you have installed the downloader, add a "Download button" to the Morphe screen to link them.

Step 1: Display the download button

Open "Settings" → "Morphe" in the Morphe version of YouTube.
Proceed to "Player" → "External downloads".
Turn on "Show external download button". A dedicated button will now appear on the video screen.

Step 2: Register the app to be linked Tap "Downloader package name" on the same screen, enter the name (package name) of the app you want to use exactly as written, and press "OK".

Step 3: Hide the confusing official button The original "Offline (Save)" button in YouTube is for YouTube Premium and is unrelated to this configuration. Hide it so you don't press it by mistake.

Return to "Settings" → "Morphe" → "Player".
Open "Action buttons" and turn on "Hide download button".

The configuration is now complete. You can start a download easily with a single tap of the link button while watching a video, without the hassle of copying and pasting URLs.
